Originally from Uniontown, Ohio, Derek Gullett first began playing the trombone at age 11 in his 5th grade music program. While in high school, he served as principal trombone of both the Civic Theater Orchestra and Freedom Brass Band of Akron, Ohio. More recently, he has served as acting-principal trombone of the Lansdowne Symphony Orchestra. Currently, he is continuing his musical education at the Curtis Institute of Music, where he is in his third year of study. His primary teachers have included James Albrecht, Richard Stout, Nitzan Haroz, and Matthew Vaughn.
